From Ground Zero to Strategic Impact
Through a structured, four-step journey, we support universities in establishing, strengthening, and sustaining their ORICs, ensuring they become competitive and top-ranked centers of research, innovation, and commercialization.
Universities join the ORIC Visionary Club, gaining access to a national platform for collaboration, resources, and recognition.
We provide structured guidance and capacity-building support to help universities establish new ORICs or strengthen the sustainability of existing ones, while simultaneously building pathways for skills, commercialization, and ranking.
Through SRIC, we equip ORIC leaders and professionals with specialized training, certifications, and diplomas designed to enhance their skills and institutional impact.
Universities are evaluated through the Shehnaz Index – Mapping Pakistan’s ORIC Future, benchmarking their progress and ranking them nationally for visibility and improvement.
The ORIC Podcast runs parallel to the journey, featuring conversations with national and international experts, industry leaders, and policymakers to inspire and guide universities.
The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) plays a vital role in strengthening the research ecosystem of higher education institutions by aligning academic pursuits with national priorities and global standards. ORIC’s core functions encompass six key components that collectively foster an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and socio-economic impact. These components include:
The first component, research support and development, focuses on facilitating high-quality research through grant acquisition, proposal writing assistance, publication support, and collaboration initiatives.
The second component, innovation and commercialization, aims to convert academic research into market-ready products, services, and technologies that contribute to economic development.
The third component, academia-industry linkages, works to establish partnerships with industrial, community, and government sectors, ensuring that research outcomes are aligned with real-world needs and contribute to national growth.
Commercialization and entrepreneurship are central to transforming academic knowledge into tangible economic and social impact. At the heart of this process lies the ability to convert research findings, prototypes, and innovative ideas into viable products, services, or solutions that meet market demands. Commercialization extends beyond simply licensing technologies—it involves validating ideas, protecting intellectual property, building partnerships with industry, and creating pathways for knowledge-based economic development. ORIC plays a crucial role in facilitating this process by identifying marketable innovations, supporting business modeling, and connecting inventors with investors and commercialization platforms.
Entrepreneurship within academic institutions nurtures a culture of innovation, risk-taking, and problem-solving. Universities, through ORIC, are no longer just knowledge producers—they are also becoming incubators of startups, accelerators of innovation, and hubs for job creation. ORIC supports entrepreneurial initiatives by establishing incubation centers, organizing pitch competitions, providing mentorship, offering seed funding opportunities, and engaging students and faculty in startup ecosystems. These initiatives empower researchers and young entrepreneurs to develop market-responsive solutions that address local and global challenges, often aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To achieve sustainable impact, ORIC fosters an integrated ecosystem where research, innovation, and entrepreneurship converge. This includes developing clear commercialization policies, securing IP rights, building strategic partnerships with industries, and facilitating access to venture capital and angel investors. By bridging the gap between academia and the market, ORIC enables universities to generate economic value from intellectual capital, while contributing to national priorities such as economic diversification, employment generation, and technological advancement. In doing so, commercialization and entrepreneurship become powerful tools for transforming research into resilience and knowledge into national progress.
Intellectual property and legal support ensures that innovations are legally protected through patents, copyrights, and trademarks while supporting startups with legal frameworks.
Capacity building and training enhances the research and entrepreneurial skills of faculty, students, and staff through workshops, seminars, and development programs.
Lastly, research ethics and compliance ensures that all research activities meet ethical standards, institutional review protocols, and national guidelines, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability. Together, these six components enable ORIC to drive sustainable development, strengthen institutional capacity, and position the university as a hub of knowledge, innovation, and economic advancement.
